1/4" Diameter Solid Carbide Compression Router Bits, 2+2 Flute, 1/4" Shank
Compression bits combine the best of Up-Cut and Down-Cut. Up-Cut bits evacuate the shavings from grooves efficiently, but can chip the top edge of the cut in plywood and other man-made materials. Down-Cut bits leave a beautiful edge on the top surface, but can blow out the bottom on through cuts (again…in plywood) and don't do a good job of evacuating the chips. 1/4" Compression bits start with 1/4" of Up-Cut and then have Down-Cut for the rest of the cutting length. Plunge just past the Up-Cut section and now you're cutting with Down-Cut grind at the surface and Up-Cut evacuating the chips from the deeper part of your groove. They're the best choice for machining plywood, MDF, melamine veneer and particle board.
