Up-Cut or Down-Cut? Up-Cut bits pull the chips toward the router, cleaning out the cut area quickly. They’re generally the preferred approach, unless you’re working with a type of plywood that tends to chip with an Up-Cut. Down-Cut bits slice downward into the material, eliminating tear-out.
