Flush Trim Base for Compact and Mid-Size Routers
Woodpeckers new Flush Trim Base streamlines the process of trimming solid wood edge banding. A block plane is great…if you have one, know how to sharpen it, and have a great deal of time on your hands. Balancing a router with a flush trim bit on the edge is faster than a block plane, but that's like walking a tight-rope…one slip away from disaster. The Flush Trim Base starts with of a 6" x 15" solid phenolic plate. Over half the base provides a reference surface for the top of your panel. Where the router mounts, the phenolic has been machined to create a relieved area that will clear anything 1/8" above the panel face. Just dial in the router bit to be a few thousandths above the surface of your plywood and you're ready to shave edge banding (or anything else, for that matter) in line with the plywood face. With the router oriented vertically, chip-out is virtually eliminated. And with three different ways to guide the cut, there's no edge banding project you can't tackle. The Flush Trim Base is drilled for most major brands of cordless and corded trim routers. It also fits 1-1/2 hp routers with the standard Porter-Cable three-screw base plate. See the complete list in the "Specifications" tab.
Cut Edge-Banding Jobs Down to Size!
Use the included fence to speed up production on shelves with either one or two edge bands. Stacks of shelves to trim? Set the fence for the perfect overlap and power through the stack in record time.
Use a pilot bearing rabbeting bit to quickly and accurately trim banding on curves, arcs and other odd shapes.
Trim edge banding all the way around a panel all at once by working without the fence. With a router bit wider than your edge-banding, there's no problem staying aligned to your cut. Just keep downward pressure on the hand-grips and guide the Flush Trim Base around the corners.
Why solid wood edge band in the first place? Heat set (iron-on) edge banding covers plywood edges quickly, but the material is extremely thin. Voids in the plywood telegraph through to the surface and are easily damaged. And, you're limited to a square edge. A solid wood edge band just 1/8" thick bridges over voids and is vastly tougher than paper-thin iron-on edge banding. In addition, by making your own edge banding material from the same stock as the rest of your project, color and grain patterns remain consistent. If you want a profiled edge on your panel, just make your edge material whatever size you need for your molded profile.
Not just for edge banding! Trim through-tenons, exposed dowels, half-laps, bridle joints and more with the Flush Trim Base. It's faster, safer and less likely to chip than block planes or paring chisels.
Like all Woodpeckers products, the Flush Trim Base is precisely machined and carefully inspected right here in our Strongsville, Ohio, facility just south of Cleveland.
