Carbide Head, 3-Flute Clearing Router Bits, 1/2" and 1/4" Shanks
Ultra-Shear's new Clearing & Pattern Bits make quick work of recesses for large inlays. You'll get the job done faster and have a more uniform bottom finish compared to working with a 1/2" bit. We make the Clearing & Pattern Bit in two sizes, 1" cutting diameter with 1/2" shank and 3/4" cutting diameter with 1/4" shank. Both have a cut length of 5/8" and both include an easily removed pattern bearing. If you're using the bit in a CNC, remove the bearing. In a hand-held router the bearing can follow a template or follow a finished edge to extend the depth of pockets, grooves and rabbets.

Both sizes feature a 3-flute design which reduces chip load and can either produce more cuts per inch or allow faster feed rates (or a little bit of both!). Ultra-Shear borrowed a technique from metal-working tool companies to build clearing bits unlike anything else on the market. We braze a solid carbide head onto a steel shank, then turn the entire assembly the same way we would grind a solid carbide tool. We're able to marry the superior cutting geometry of solid carbide spiral bits with the economy of a steel shank.
If you work with the Shaper Origin or a European router that uses 8mm collets, we have two similar clearing and pattern bits; 16mm and 12mm diameters with 8mm shank. They use the same 3-flute spiral cutting geometry and the same carbide head design.
Like all Woodpeckers products, Ultra-Shear 3-Flute Clearing & Pattern Bits are made right here in our Strongsville, Ohio, facility (just south of Cleveland) and sold directly to the woodworker. The days of paying extra for middle-man markups are over. Buy direct from the manufacturer and pocket the savings. We’re confident you won’t find an American-made bit of similar design for less.
