Durable, Decays-Resistant, and Historically TrustedHere’s all the rest of the info you want.
Teak (Tectona grandis), often referred to as Burmese Teak or Genuine Teak, has earned a global reputation as the premier choice for exterior woodworking. Sourced from quality plantations in Central and South America, this hardwood is prized for its unique combination of workability and extreme resistance to the elements.
Characteristics & Grain:
Teak features a signature golden-to-medium brown heartwood. The grain is typically straight, though it can occasionally present beautiful wavy or interlocked patterns. Because of its high silica and natural oil content, the wood has a coarse, uneven texture and a slightly "greasy" feel—a trait that provides its world-class rot resistance. When milled, you may even notice a distinct, leather-like scent.
Working with Teak:
Despite its density, Teak is remarkably easy to work. It turns, stains, and finishes beautifully. While the natural oils provide protection, we recommend wiping the surface with a solvent before gluing or applying a final finish to ensure maximum adhesion. Our thin stock is sawn from kiln-dried lumber to minimize movement, with the grain running along the longest dimension for maximum strength.
