The Fruit-Bearing Hardwood: Wild Grain Meets Modern Sustainability
Olivewood (Olea spp.) is as famous for its history as it is for its stunning, marble-like appearance. Sourced from Europe and Eastern Africa, this is the same tree responsible for the world's commercial olive production. What makes Olivewood truly unique is its status as a completely sustainable resource; trees are rarely felled. Instead, limbs are pruned, allowing the tree to regenerate and continue producing fruit for generations.
Visual Character & Texture: Due to the twisted nature of the Olive tree, the wood often displays wildly swirling grain patterns and natural occlusions. The heartwood is characterized by a creamy base with dramatic, irregular streaks of dark brown and deep grey. When finished, it polishes to an exceptionally smooth, even luster that feels as good as it looks.
Working Properties: Olivewood is a dense, strong material with a high oil content. While its interlocked grain provides excellent structural integrity, it can be challenging to work with and may have a moderate blunting effect on tools. We recommend pre-boring for any fasteners and using sharp cutters to manage the oily surface. This stock is kiln-dried with care to prevent the checking or honeycombing often associated with this species.
