Ultra-Shear's new V-Groove Finger Grip Bits cut a V-shaped groove along any straight or curved edge. The depth is controlled by a ball-bearing pilot, keeping the cut consistent on both inside and outside curves, as well as along straight edges. We offer 3 sizes, covering cutting and serving boards from 3/4" to over 2" in thickness. All three are suitable for cutting a grip around the entire perimeter of a board or a stopped groove in the ends. And the apex of all three vees have a gentle radius that won't trap residue. The two smaller bits have a 1/4" shank. The smallest has a cutting height of 3/8", making it a good choice from boards from 3/4" to 1-1/4". The middle has a cutting height of 9/16" covering boards from 1" to 1-1/2". The big bit has a maximum cutting height of 13/16" for a range of thicknesses from 1" to over 2" (the big one has another trick up its sleeve that I'll share with you in a minute). You'll notice some overlap in the thickness ranges. That's so you have choices in picking the right groove profile to blend with your board design.
How about 3 finger grip profiles in one? The big 1/2" shank bit comes with 3 interchangeable bearings. The choice of bearing gives you cutting heights of 13/16", 9/16" and 7/16". Just put the bearing on the shaft that gives you the profile you want for the board thickness and design you're creating. There's nothing complicated about the bearing change, just loosen the set screw in the retaining collar and slide the collar and bearing off.
