Compact Bowl Bits
Ultra-Shear Compact Bowl Bits provide a more delicate option than the other bowl bits on the market. With 1/2" cutting diameter and small bottom-radius options, your projects will have a distinct look compared to those made with 7/8" or larger bowl bits. Divided charcuterie boards, nightstand valets, coasters, desk organizers and holiday candy dishes are just some of the hundreds of projects you can make with Compact Bowl Bits. Use the 8mm shank versions with the Shaper Origin for digital control, or use a template with either shank size.

You can use commercially available templates or make your own custom templates. The beauty of template work with a pattern bit is that there's no offset to contend with (unlike using a router-mounted template guide bushing). Whatever size and shape your template, that's exactly what your project will look like.
Beyond cutting to a template, bowl bits can be used to extend the depth of any recess in your stock. For instance, drill a hole with a Forstner bit and you have an ugly center point and a tiny sharp groove around the perimeter. But a quick cut with a bowl bit gives you a clean radius around the perimeter and erases the center spur hole. The 8mm shank is a perfect bit to use in the Shaper Origin for creating a pocket with a neatly finished transition from the side to the bottom.
Ultra-Shear borrowed a technique from metal-working tool companies to build spiral router bits unlike anything else on the market. Solid carbide bits with cutting diameters greater than the shank involve grinding away immense amounts of carbide which is both time consuming and wasteful. Carbide tipped bits lack the shear-cutting efficiency of spiral geometry. Ultra-Shear brazes a solid carbide head onto an economical steel shank, then turns the entire assembly as one unit, delivering the perfect concentricity and superior cutting geometry found in solid carbide spirals. This hybrid approach opens up a world of opportunities for unique, high-performance designs while keeping prices competitive.
The difference between the 3 1/4" Shank Compact Bowl Bits is the corner radius between the sidewall and the bottom. You have your choice of 1/16", 1/8" or 3/16". All have a 3/8" cut length. 8mm shank bits are available with corner radii of 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm. Pick just the ones you need or save some money with a complete set of either 1/4" shank or 8mm shank. Like all Woodpeckers products, Ultra-Shear Compact Bowl Bits are made right here in our Strongsville, Ohio, facility just south of Cleveland, and sold direct to the woodworker. The days of paying extra for middle-man markups are over. Buy directly from the manufacturer and pocket the savings.
