Carbide Head Compression Pattern and Flush Trim Router Bit, 2+2 Flute, 1/2" Shank, 3/4" Diameter
Ultra-Shear's Steel-Shank Carbide-Head Compression Pattern and Flush Trim Bits make your pattern-routing projects go smoother and safer. With a bearing both above and below the cutting area, you can cut with the pattern on either the top or bottom of your material. Combine the dual bearing design with 3/4" cutting diameter and the double-shearing action of compression grinding geometry and you have a bit that speeds up your pattern routing, minimizes sanding and avoids tear-out.

Pattern routing has three basic rules to ensure your safety and to achieve the best surface finish. 1) Feed into the rotation of the router bit. In general, on a router table that means feeding from your right to your left. 2) Cut downhill on any slope or curve along the edge grain of the wood. 3) Approach corners so you transition from edge grain to end grain rather than end grain to edge grain. One sure way to guarantee you can follow these rules is to be prepared to work with your pattern both above and below your workpiece. On a simple rectangle as shown in the photos, two opposing corners are cut with the pattern on top.
The other two opposing corners are cut with the pattern on the bottom. Just flip your project over, raise the bit until the motor-side bearing engages the pattern and get right back to work. You'll get flawless cuts on all four quadrants with minimal risk of tear-out or catches.
We make these versatile bits in 2 cut-lengths, 1-5/8" and 2". You should always use the shortest cut-length that will work with your material. While these bits look similar to a solid carbide bit, they use a carbide tube brazed to a resilient steel shank to absorb shock better than solid carbide. This hybrid approach brings the cost of the bit down, too.
Don’t settle for inferior quality imported bits to save money. Woodpeckers uses state-of-the-art CNC grinding equipment, the highest quality solid carbide blanks, ultra-fine grinding wheels and skilled Northeast Ohio machinists to produce American-made router bits at extremely competitive prices. The days of paying extra for middle-man markups are over. Buy direct from the manufacturer and pocket the savings. We’re confident you won’t find an American-made bit of the same design for less.
