All three patterns allow you some flexibility in the final appearance of your groove. You can make them shallow enough that the chamfer just breaks the edge or increase the depth of cut and create a wider chamfer that adds another element. The first two bits have a full cove shape in 3/8" and 1/2" diameters and 30° lead-in chamfers. The third design is a 90° vee-groove with a 1/4" radius at the tip.
While the internet is full of different jigging options for cutting juice grooves, by far the easiest and most adaptable is a simple internal template and a template guide bushing in your router base. We've made a special template guide bushing that's 1" outside diameter and 7/32” long. To make a template, simply shape a piece of 1/4" material 1" narrower than where you want the center of your groove and stick it to your board with double-faced tape. Keep the template guide bushing against the edge of the template and move counter-clockwise around the template. It's that easy. Our special template guide bushing fits any router base that accepts Porter-Cable style guide bushings. If you want to use a cordless palm router, our StabilMax Trim Router Base accepts standard P-C guide bushings and gives you a more balanced footing than the OEM base plate.
The Juice Groove Bits also work flawlessly in CNCs of any size as well as the Shaper Origin. Program any pattern you want and cut away. The 3-flute design reduces the chip load of each cut by 33% and increases cuts per inch by 50%, resulting in clean, smooth cuts both with and across the grain.
