OneTIME Tool - SS Compass - 2017 - Retired Nov 27, 2017
12" and 8" Stainless Steel Compass/Dividers Make Layout Work Pure Pleasure
New Design for an Ancient Tool. Compass/Dividers have been used since the early antiquities to measure distances, transfer lengths from one drawing to another and draw circles. They were an indispensable navigation tool and along with a straight edge, produced precise mechanical drawings for virtually everything that was ever built. Woodpeckers new SS (stainless steel) Compasses are impressive to behold . . . and hold. You’ll find them a joy to use.
Beautiful In Form and Function. As a woodworker you probably have a few tools in your shop that give you pleasure beyond the tool simply doing its intended job. Maybe it was handed down, perhaps a special gift, or a tool that is beautifully designed, feels good in the hand and performs spectacularly. Woodpeckers SS Compass/Dividers are certainly a candidate for that latter category.
Highly Functional New Design. One of the first things you’ll note with this new compass design is the unique method employed to capture the scribe points and pencil. Frankly, most previous methods, both old and new, are rather clunky. The SS Compass features eight friction-holding contacts points. They capture and completely stabilize the scribe points and/or pencil. The pencil holding leg of the compass allows one inch of pencil travel for adjustment after sharpening. A knurled stainless steel knob and small bolt lock the holder in position. The two compass legs have an adjustable tensioning screw that will hold the legs in position until you lock them in place with a generous-sized locking knob and screw. Each compass comes with two sharp scribe points that won’t easily skitter off your work while drawing.
Enjoy Drawing Layouts, Even Using Euclidian Geometry! :) You’ll use your new SS Compass to draw circles and arcs, of course. You’ll be generating well-proportioned layout designs. Well beyond that, you’ll discover that in just a matter of minutes you can create a host of geometric forms like a false ellipse for beautiful inlay work. You’ll accurately draw pentagons, hexagons, squares, Isosceles triangles and more.
Two Compass Sizes Cover A Wide-Range of Drawing Needs. Woodpeckers SS Compasses are offered in either 8" or 12" models (refers to leg length). Both models can draw a circle as small as a ¾" radius. The 8" model can draw a circle up to 22¼" diameter. The 12" model can handle a whopping 33½" diameter. SS Compasses are sold separately or you can save money by ordering the set and get them both. Regardless of your choice, the tools will be shipped in a protective molded case with a custom cut foam interior.
