OneTIME Tool - One-Piece Carpenter Square - 2011- Retired May 9, 2011
In recent years Woodpeckers has produced a number of carpenter style squares which are triangles with a foot on one edge. Carpenter squares are very similar to speed squares that have been around for decades. Carpenter squares are very similar to speed squares that have been around for decades. If you've had the pleasure of using a speed square, you probably know how useful this tool is. All of our Carpenter Squares to date have been made from two or more machined parts fastened in some manner. As is typical, they have 90 and 45 degree angles.
OneTIME Tool - ONE-PIECE CARPENTER SQUARE - 2011
This time I decided to take a different approach. Our newest One-Time Tool is a One-piece Carpenter Square machined from one solid block of aluminum. It may sound easy but it truly isn't. The more metal that's removed from a block the greater the chances of distortion. Making it work requires special tools, fixtures, machining processes and the willingness to fill the scrap bucket with less than perfect parts.
There are two different sizes you can choose from, a 3-3/4” (95mm) and a 6” (150mm). The blades are 7/32” thick as is the foot with an overall width of 23/32. The two are styled differently. The six inch has a hand opening and the smaller has a finger hole. At 3-3/4” the smaller square is perfect for your pocket. Of course the 6” pretty much belongs on your bench unless you have huge pockets.
Accuracy is on the money. We recently invested in more granite inspection tools to ensure extreme accuracy of all our tools. If we can fit a .0015” (one and one half thousandths) feeler gauge anywhere the part is scrapped.
Both of these One-Piece Carpenter Squares have an engraved scale along the vertical edge and the 6” also has the most common angles marked (18, 22-1/2, 30, 45, 60, 67.5, 72). They're available with either inch or metric graduations. The inch scales are incremented every 1/16th and the metric every millimeter.
Like all Woodpeckers tools, these Carpenter Squares are made right here in our shop just outside of Cleveland, Ohio that of course means Made in U.S.A.
Deadline to order is Monday May 9, 2011. Tools will ship the first week of July 2011.
