Unmatched Precision and Finest QualityMaterials. The 6” long 641 and 8” long 851 Square (also available in metric scales) start the manufacturing process as a solid piece of very expensive, extremely stable, cast aluminum tool plate. The plate is then carefully machined in multiple, high RPM passes on our state-of-art CNC equipment.

The result is a single-piece blade and handle square. This manufacturing process insures the 641 and 851 Squares are accurate to within .001 inch or less along the full length of the tool.

Once we have a perfect square we add two pieces of precision-machined aluminum to form the cheeks of the handle. These cheeks are fitted to the handle with two stainless steel dowel pins that ensure bulletproof rigidity and perfect alignment when pressed into their precision-machined holes. This kind of strength and accuracy simply cannot be matched by squares made using separate blade and handle parts or punched-out on a stamping press.

"A Dream to Use. These squares are stout, yet light weight and offer superb balance. The 641 Square is small enough to tuck neatly into your shop apron. The larger 851 Square is perfect for bench use."

Features Galore. The blades on both squares are ¼” thick and the handle is a full ¾”. The inside edge of the of the square’s handle features a shoulder to allow it to lay flat on the work so you can accurately mark either edge of the blade.

The thick base even makes it easy to stand the blade upright to check square on your table saw blade, jointer fence, band saw blade and other machinery setup operations. With the square standing upright, checking casework parts for square is an effortless, hands-free operation.

We even mill a notch at the inside corner of the square so you can “zero-out” your layout line all the way to the edge of your work.  Easy to read measurement scales are laser etched in 1/16th increments on both sides of the blade.

Ordering Options. You can choose to order the Model 641 or 851 Square individually or save money when you buy the set. We also offer the 641 in a 150mm  and 851 in a 200mm metric version that use 1mm scales. All 641 and 851 Squares come in a custom-fitted case.

Our Guarantee. We’re so confident in the accuracy of the Model 641 and 851 Squares we offer them with a Lifetime Guarantee to stay square to within .001 inch or we’ll repair or replace it upon return and inspection by us.

Woodpeckers Model 641 and 851 Squares are manufactured using state-of-the-art CNC equipment operated by highly skilled machinists in the company’s shop located near Cleveland, Ohio.

Squares - FAQ

Q: What is the difference between the Aluminum and Stainless Steel squares besides material?

A: The biggest difference besides the material the squares are made out of is the marking holes that are milled into the stainless steel squares that are not milled in the aluminum versions.  These holes allow for marking layout lines for projects. The Stainless Steel Square blade is approximately 1/16” in thickness where the Aluminum blade is approximately ⅛”.  The thinner blade and the marking holes along the blade of the Stainless Steel Square allows for it to be better used for lay out lines.  The thicker blade of the Aluminum Square is better suited for making sure work pieces are perpendicular to each other.

Q: How accurate are your squares compared to others on the market?

A: Our squares are milled and inspected to be within tolerances of .001” per foot or .0085°.
