Ultra-Shear's Metric Half-Round Bits come in 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm diameters…sizes that perfectly match the mortises cut by Festool's DF-500 and DF-700 Domino Joining Systems. With these bits you can make loose tenon material that can take your Domino joints to another level. Ready-made Domino tenons are engineered with grooves to ensure even glue distribution and to avoid hydraulic pressure from too much glue. But exposed in a through joint, they're not very attractive. Lots of folks have tried to make their own tenon stock, but using inch round-over bits to make metric tenons rarely works out well. Ultra-Shear's Metric Half-Round Bits cut exactly the right profiles at exactly the right sizes.

To mill your own custom loose tenon stock, machine the thickness of your stock to fit the mortise. Next, profile one edge. Cut the width of the material to match the mortise and finally, profile the second edge. Now you have tenon stock that fills the mortise completely and looks great exposed. You can use the same species or bring even more attention to the detail with contrasting stock. And don't limit yourself to working only with the standard Domino tenon widths. You can make your tenon stock to fit the wider settings on the machines or overlap two cuts to make even wider mortises.
The 7 sizes of Metric Half-Round Bits are available individually. We also offer two sets. One matches the DF-500 (4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm) and the other matches the DF-700 (8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 14mm). All the Metric Half-Rounds use Ultra-Shear's "Carbide Head" design, where a piece of solid carbide is brazed to an economical steel shank. This marries the clean-cutting spiral geometry found in solid carbide bits with the economy of a steel shank.
