Ultra-Shear Big Bowl Bits achieve 50% more cuts per inch (with their 3-flute design) and have at least a 1/2" reach advantage over most competitive bits. Our bits have an overall length of 2-7/8" allowing you to cut deeper recesses in your projects without adding a shaft extension. And with a full 1" cutting diameter, you'll get your recess cleaned out faster, too. They're available in 4 different corner radii (1/8", 3/16", 1/4" and 5/16"). Serving bowls, divided charcuterie boards, and holiday candy dishes are just some of the hundreds of projects you can make. "How" you make them is up to you. The bits are equipped with pattern-following bearings, but if you want to use them in a CNC, the bearings come off in seconds.

You can use commercially available templates or make your own custom patterns. The beauty of pattern work with these bits is that what you see is what you get. Whatever size and shape your template, that's exactly what your project will look like. There's no offset to contend with like there is when using template guide bushings.
You can also extend the depth of a recess. Just follow the edge of the recess with the bearing and you'll make the pocket deeper and create a soft radius in the transition from side to bottom.
Ultra-Shear borrowed a technique from metal-cutting tool companies to merge solid carbide spiral cutting efficiency with steel shank economy. Our "Carbide Head" bits have a solid carbide blank brazed to a steel shank. After the head is brazed on, the 3-flute spiral cutting pattern is ground to shape, just like our solid carbide spirals. The result is spiral cutting performance at prices that compete with carbide tipped bits.
