Ultra-Shear's new Plunging Pattern Bits have two advantages over all other carbide-tipped pattern bits on the market. Typical carbide-tipped pattern bits struggle with plunging cuts because the ends aren’t designed to cut…just the sides. And most have the carbide brazed on straight up and down. But, Ultra-Shear’s new Plunging Pattern Bits have an end designed to cut and the cutting edges have a shear angle.
Most other carbide-tipped pattern bits have a narrow strip of carbide at the edge. That makes a straight plunge cut somewhere between tricky and impossible. But the carbide on Ultra-Shear’s new bits extends inward to the center of the bit and is ground to a cutting edge on the end. Plunge cuts leave a clean bottom with no “nub” in the middle and feeding the bit into your stock is smooth and easy.

That one is 1/4" shank, all the rest are 1/2" shank. There are 3 cut lengths of 3/4" diameter; 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4". And there are 3 cut lengths of 1-1/8" diameter; 1", 1-1/2" and 2". All sizes deliver peak performance in pattern routing. The shear angle of the cutting edges delivers exceptionally clean cuts, even through grain switchbacks.
The fully-ground end and shear-angle edge also make these bits ideal for rabbets, dados and grooves. The bottom surface (cut by the top of the bit) looks as if it has been cut by a finely tuned hand plane.
