Freehand Guard 2.0
Woodpeckers new and improved Freehand Guard covers the router bit, provides 2 starting fulcrum points and eliminates over 90% of the chips created while routing curved edges with your router table. When you're working curved shapes on your router table, the fence is just going to be in the way. Instead of working with a fully exposed bit, add the Freehand Guard to work safer and cleaner.
The Freehand Guard provides 2 fulcrum points to start the cut, much like a starter pin. Then a crystal-clear acrylic guard keeps your fingers away from the bit without obstructing your view (not a substitute for safety glasses). Plus, there's a very efficient dust collection port that works with either 2-1/2" dust collection hose or 2-1/4" shop vac hose. While we've had the Freehand Guard for several years, this injection-molded version accommodates thicker material (1-3/4") and has captured mounting knobs that stay connected to your Freehand Guard when you're not using it.
Work Smarter, Safer and Cleaner with the Freehand Guard
Woodpeckers Freehand Guard mounts to any Woodpeckers router lift or router plate as well as the StabilMax RT+ router base. It uses 2 of the starter pin threaded holes. Since the starter pin holes are concentric around the opening, you have multiple positions to mount the Freehand Guard…choose the one most comfortable for you and your project. Like all Woodpeckers products, the Freehand Guard is made and inspected in Strongsville, Ohio, just south of Cleveland.
To use the Freehand Guard on any router lift or plate other than a Woodpeckers, you can drill and tap 1/4-20 threaded holes using the template provided in the "Manuals" tab. If you're not equipped to tap the holes, you can remove the original knobs from the Freehand Guard, drill 1/4" holes and use bolts coming up through your plate.
