OneTime Tool - Angle-Depth Gauge - Retired December 26, 2022
Woodpeckers newest OneTIME Tool takes a century-old machinist’s tool and updates it for use in the modern woodworker’s shop. For around a hundred years, machinists have relied on a device similar to our new Angle-Depth Gauge to measure small holes and grooves. We took the fundamental design, used woodworker-friendly graduations (32nds on one side and mm on the other), machined a notch in the end of the rule for parallel scribing and carefully milled the groove in the head so it always returns the rule perfectly square after using it for an angle. Use it to measure the depth of grooves and holes, to lay out angles, as a small T-square, for parallel scribing and as an accurate, compact rule. All this in a tool you’ll barely notice in your shirt pocket.
Feature-Packed; Pocket Sized
As a depth gauge, rest the sliding head across the face of your material and extend the scale to the bottom of the groove or hole. Lock the thumbwheel and you have the measurement recorded in both inch and metric scales. It’s perfect for measuring the depth of dovetails, box joints, rabbets, dadoes, mortises and holes. The scale is sized to fit in very small openings (it’s just 1/16" thick and 1/4" wide). With material resting on a flat surface, it’s easy to measure its thickness with a high degree of accuracy. Just rest the head on the material and adjust the scale to the table. The scale flips around easily from inch to metric.
If you need to then transfer that measurement to another piece of stock, drop the tip of your pencil in the milled notch in the end of the scale and run the head along the edge of your stock. The notch puts the pencil right in line with the end of the scale and keeps it in place.
Loosen the thumbwheel, lift the scale out of the 90° index groove and adjust it for angled layout. 30°, 45° and 60° have laser-engraved reference lines or you can use an angle reference plate to set any angle you choose.
The head of the Angle-Depth Gauge is machined from a solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum on state-of-the-art CNC milling machines, then anodized for surface protection. The scale on the stainless steel blade is precisely engraved with high contrast, easy to read markings. Your Angle-Depth Gauge comes with a wall-mountable Rack-It so your tool is always right in plain sight and ready to go to work.
