LIVE-EDGE-SPALTED-HACKBERRY-SLAB-GROUP
Spalted Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) is also known as Nettletree or Beaverwood. Native to North America. Spalted Hackberry happens when the Hackberry tree has been exposed to decay. The wood is stable and the decay is stopped when it is kiln-dried. The wood is sound and there are no soft spots. It is easy to work and very popular for steam bending. Color varies from a light yellowish gray to light brown. These live slabs are kiln-dried and thickness planed. We have taken the pictures after wiping on some water to show off the grain pattern of the slab. The live slabs were measured from the center of the board in both width and length. Keep in mind that these are one-of-a-kind pieces. Wood is a natural product, and pieces may have checks or other inconsistencies. These are not considered defects. Thickness +/-1/8”.
