If you've been to the Paolini Pocket Rule page, you probably already have an idea on how the new Woodpeckers Bench Rule works. It's similar to the Paolini Pocket Rule except it's much larger. Yes, you could put it in your apron pocket but it would probably be in the way. What it's really designed for is your work bench for furniture and cabinet projects. In fact unlike the first time it was offered in 2011, this time around longer ones will be available (the original 18” plus 24” and 48”). They're available engraved with just inch scales or a combination of inch and metric. (See SCALE DESCRIPTION below for more detail.)
This bench rule is unique. It incorporates a 1-3/4” wide by 3/16” thick blade with a sliding rule stop that also doubles as a ruler stand when inserted sideways through the blade. When used as a rule stop, you can easily make repetitive marks a fixed distance from the board edge, scribe pencil lines parallel to the edge and then use the stop as a stand to support the ruler while you set your saw blade or router bit height with the vertical scale along the end.
The pictures in the caption to the right help to show these features.
Looking for a ruler just like the Bench Rule but sized for your apron pocket? Then check out our other OneTime Tool, the Paolini Pocket Rule. It's available in 6”, 8” and 12” lengths.
The Paolini Pocket Rules and Woodpeckers Bench Rules are part of our OneTime Tool program and are only made to order. The last day to order one is Monday March 18, 2013. Delivery is tentatively scheduled for some time in June. However the actual ship date will depend on volume. As always, we will not charge you until the order is ready to ship (except Paypal orders). COMBO INCH/METRIC SIDE 2: 1/16” along top edge, 1mm along bottom edge, 1/16” along vertical edge.
When the rule stop is installed on the blade, you'll easily be able to make repetitive marks a fixed distance from the boards edge.
A notch in the end of the ruler keeps your pencil tip in place while scribing lines parallel to a boards edge.
The rule stop doubles as a stand when slipped through the ruler's blade. This keeps the blade upright for using the vertical scale on the blades end.
The vertical scale is designed for setting your saw blade and router bit height.
